Memories of Grandad

Created by Beckie moran 2 years ago

Every time we visited Grandma and Grandad we were treated as if we had been starved! He would say "get them kids something to eat" "get them some cake" "have a sandwich" "get a choc ice out the freezer".

Everytime the ice cream van came he would send us out to get a 99!

We would walk for miles and miles with Grandad and the dog!

Grandad used to drive Grandma, Mum, Milly and I down to Weymouth every year for our annual caravan holiday. He used to drive us all there, stop for a cup of tea then go back home. He would come back for us a week later.

Grandad was known by everyone, which became apparent on my wedding day! Steve and his friends had a few (too many) drinks the night before the wedding and thought it would be a good idea to go outside with their swords completely naked! Unbeknown to them, they were spotted by the Mayress who informed Grandad!

Grandad loved watching countdown and we were not allowed to make a sound when it was on!

Grandad was well known to the local fire Brigade for the numerous chimney fires he had!

I remember Grandad coming in to wish me happy birthday at my 18th birthday party, my favourite photo of my party was of Grandad, Scuffy and I!

Grandad used to have his own seat out in the foyer of the pub so he could pop in with Scuffy for a drink (which he very rarely paid for because everyone wanted to buy him a drink!

Grandma and Grandads door was never locked, everyone was welcome, everyone was fed and everyone loved to visit! I hope that my house is the same for my children and (eventually) grandchildren.

Miss Grandad and Grandma so much.
